Samsung is diving deeper into cryptocurrencies.
On Thursday, the smartphone company announced a partnership with cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, making it easier for users in the U.S. and Canada to buy cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin on Samsung phones.
This is done through Samsung's Blockchain Wallet, which now integrates with the Gemini mobile app, allowing users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies. Users will also be able to view their Gemini account balances in the Samsung Blockchain Wallet app, as well as transfer their crypto into cold storage through Gemini's Custody feature.
Both the Samsung Blockchain Wallet and Gemini's mobile app are available in the Samsung Galaxy Store. Gemini is also available on Google's Play Store. The apps are only available for select Samsung devices, though, including the Galaxy S20 Series, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Note 10 Series, Galaxy Fold, and Galaxy S10 series. Phones bought through Verizon are excluded.
Samsung first launched the Blockchain Wallet on Galaxy S10 devices, allowing users to send, receive and store cryptocurrencies, as well as use cryptocurrency-based decentralized apps (dApps).
SEE ALSO: Reddit's new Community Points could be huge for EthereumGemini offers its users the ability to buy, sell and securely store more than 20 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Zcash. It's the first U.S. cryptocurrency exchange to partner with Samsung. “Crypto is not just a technology, it is a movement. We are proud to be working with Samsung to bring crypto’s promise of greater choice, independence, and opportunity to more individuals around the world,” said Tyler Winklevoss, CEO of Gemini.
While Gemini users can obviously buy, sell, and trade crypto on Gemini itself, being able to do it in Samsung's Blockchain Wallet app makes the app a bit of a one-stop shop for all your cryptocurrency needs.
